TMH Foundation gives $10K to Warren playground project

WARREN — The Trumbull Memorial Hospital Foundation awarded $10,000 to the Valley’s Inclusive Playground, an American with Disabilities Act-accessible playground in Perkins Park, as part of the foundation’s Healthy Community Grants Program.

Created by nonprofit organizations Main Street Warren and Putting Downs First, the Valley’s Inclusive Playground project is the first of its kind in the area, according to a foundation press release.

Located adjacent to a current playground, the inclusive playground enables disabled children to play with accessible learning and skill panels, music panels and activities. The playground also has ramps, cushioned flooring to provide children in wheelchairs the ability to maneuver independently and a specially designed swing to hold a wheelchair.

Main Street Warren continues to accept donations for the playground, built in September 2009 at a cost of about $200,000. Other items, such as fencing are still needed, however.

Donations may be sent to MSW, 197 W. Market St., 7th Floor, Warren, Ohio 44481, or call (330) 392-6140, ext. 14.
