Pa. state trooper facing charge of DUI

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A Pennsylvania state trooper who has overseen sobriety checkpoints on Philadelphia-area highways is on desk duty and facing a drunken-driving charge.

Pennsylvania State Police say 47-year-old Cpl. John Quigg, of Wyndmoor, was off duty when he crashed his own car into a guardrail on Route 422 in Upper Merion on Dec. 17.

According to court documents, police say there was an open bottle of alcohol in the car, and Quigg was unresponsive and appeared intoxicated. The results of blood tests are pending.

Quigg, an accident reconstruction specialist, has a court hearing scheduled for Feb. 5.
