Flames 3, Predators 1

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — David Moss and Olli Jokinen each scored in the second period, and the Flames won their fifth straight. Miikka Kiprusoff, the Finnish Olympian, stopped 27 shots as the Flames won their fourth straight game in Nashville. Calgary has won five of the past six games in this series with a 2-1 edge this season. Daymond Langkow added an empty netter for his 11th goal. Nashville’s three-game winning streak was snapped. Patric Hornqvist scored a power-play goal in the third, but that was it off Kiprusoff.

Blackhawks 4, Wild 1

CHICAGO — Marian Hossa scored two goals for the second straight game as the surging Blackhawks won their fourth straight and took over the NHL points lead. Chicago (30-10-3) has 63 points, two more than Eastern Conference-leading New Jersey and San Jose. Cristobal Huet made 19 saves as the Blackhawks improved their home record to a league-best 20-4-1. Patrick Kane extended his scoring streak to nine games with a power-play goal early in the third that made it 3-1, and Hossa finished the scoring by following in his own rebound from the crease. Minnesota’s Guillaume Latendresse opened the scoring, and the Blackhawks’ John Madden also had a goal in the first period.

Bruins 4, Senators 1

OTTAWA — Blake Wheeler had two goals and an assist and Tim Thomas extended his winning streak against Ottawa to 11 games. Wheeler earned points on Boston’s first three goals and David Krejci and Mark Recchi both had a goal and an assist as the Bruins jumped out to a 4-0 lead 13:45 in to chase Brian Elliott, who allowed all four goals. Thomas stopped 28 shots as he improved to 16-5-2 overall against the Senators, including each of Boston’s four wins in as many meetings this season. Filip Kuba scored in the second period for Ottawa, which had won four of five.

Maple Leafs 3, Panthers 2

TORONTO — Alexei Ponikarovsky scored the winning goal and Jonas Gustavsson made 29 saves for Toronto. Lee Stempniak and Tomas Kaberle also scored for the Maple Leafs, who have won only three of 10. Toronto began a stretch of four games in five days.

Devils 4, Stars 0

NEWARK, N.J. — Martin Brodeur made 28 saves for his third shutout in seven games, and Patrik Elias scored twice for New Jersey Devils. Brodeur extended his NHL record by posting career shutout No. 106. He has five this season.

Capitals 4, Canadiens 2

WASHINGTON — Alex Ovechkin’s debut as Capitals captain was a success even though he was kept off the score sheet. Tomas Fleischmann had a goal and two assists after moving from left wing to center, and Alexander Semin scored twice to lift the Capitals and snap a season-high, three-game skid. Before the game, Washington introduced Ovechkin as the team’s 14th captain.
