Johnson leads East over Chaney, 80-71; McDonald on top
YOUNGSTOWN — Norman Johnson had 24 points, seven rebounds, four steals and five assists to lead the East High boys basketball team to an 80-71 victory over Chaney on Tuesday at East High. Jarelle Burt added 15 points in the come-from-behind victory.
Trumane Jenkins had 12 points, four rebounds, three steals and four assists while Tyrell Henry contributed 12 points and four assists for the Panthers (4-3).
Dom Brown had 22 points and 11 rebounds for Chaney (3-5). Chuck Jennings added 17 points and five rebounds and Ken Strong had 12 points, six rebounds and four assists.
McDonald 71, Wellsville 69
WELLSVILLE — Zach Puntel scored 18 points and Matthias Tayala 17 to help keep the Blue Devils unbeaten.
Devin Bansberg netted 15 points while Justin Rota had 10 for McDonald (7-0, 4-0 Inter Tri-County League Tier Two). For the Tigers (6-1, 3-1), Jalen DeSarro scored 22 points.
Campbell 75, Liberty 50
CAMPBELL — Claxton Lebron, Nate Hodge, Jerah’me Williams and Lester Hughes scored 13 points apiece for the Red Devils.
Dewalyn Lettlow had 12 points as the Red Devils rode a balanced attack to a 4-3 record.
Richard Bledsoe pulled in eight rebounds for the Red Devils. Brian Venable had 12 points for the Leopards (1-7).
Struthers 55, Brookfield 51
STRUTHERS — Nate Jacubec had 22 points and Adam Ryczaj scored 19 points to lead Struthers (6-2), which outscored the Warriors 22-13 to earn the come-from-behind victory.
Mike Johnson had 11 points for Brookfield (3-2).
Hubbard 63, Girard 34
HUBBARD — Tyler Loveless scored 10 of his 20 points in a decisive third quarter that saw Hubbard outscore Girard 25-10.
Kory Hopkinson added 14 points and Kurtis Drummond had 12 for the Eagles (5-2), who led 24-16 at halftime. A.J. Weibel scored 14 points for the Indians (2-7).
Champion 51, Lakeview 46
CHAMPION — Dan Gelet made a driving layup with a minute and a half left to break a tie and Champion made its free throws down the stretch.
Gelet had 13 points to lead Champion (4-4), which fell behind 18-10 after one quarter.
Elliott Metheny scored 20 for Lakeview (1-6).
United 76, Mineral Ridge 59
HANOVERTON — United’s 1-2 scoring punch of Zack Taylor (22 points, seven rebounds) and Ryan Sarchet (19 points) was too much for the Rams.
United (2-5, 1-4) used a 28-point second quarter to seize a 49-26 lead at the break.
Zack Kiger had 21 points for the Rams (2-4, 0-4).
Lowellville 66, Western Reserve 59
BERLIN CENTER — Joe Harris scored 17 points, while Mario Amendola and Mike Mangine each added 15 to lead Lowellville (5-2, 3-1 ITCL Tier Two).
Jake Barker scored 19 points, Riley Sheptock had 14 and Shane Ewing had eight points and 12 rebounds for Reserve (2-6, 0-4).
Lisbon 49, Crestview 47
COLUMBIANA — William Bowyer scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to spark Lisbon.
Todd Padurean added 11 points for the Blue Devils (4-4, 1-3), who outscored Crestview 16-4 in the fourth quarter.
Tristan Reynolds scored 13 points and Adam Coppock had 10 for the Rebels (2-6, 1-3).
Louisville 68, West Branch 37
BELOIT — Tyler Rockwell scored 14 points for the Warriors (3-4). Brandon Ferguson scored eight points and pulled down eight rebounds.
