Westminster 68, Waynesburg 55
WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Westminster (4-9, 1-2 won its second straight game and its first in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play. Senior forward Ryne Murray led the Titans with game-high totals of 23 points and eight rebounds. Murray, who was coming off a career-high 36 points at Caltech on Sunday, was held scoreless vs. Waynesburg in the first half, during which he played just five minutes after committing two fouls. Despite Murray’s lack of first-half scoring, the Titans were tied with Waynesburg (1-9, 0-3) at halftime, 29-29. The Yellow Jackets took a seven-point, 46-39 lead with 11:28 left. Westminster then went on a 23-7 run to take the lead, 53-51, at the 5:38 mark, and eventually go up by as many as nine points at 62-53 with 2:10 left the game. Senior forward Steve Bielich was the game’s only other player to score in double figures as he came off the bench to score 11 points for Westminster. Ben Altmeyer and Erik Noone led the Yellow Jackets with eight points apiece. The Titans outshot the Yellow Jackets, 46.7 percent to 33.9 percent.
WOMEN
Westminster 67, Waynesburg 53
WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Senior guard Amy Dolsak (McDonald) scored a season-high 22 points to lead Westminster (4-7, 3-1 PAC). Dolsak, who previously posted a pair of 20-point games earlier this season, sank 6 of 12 from 3-point range and finished 8-16 from the field. She also led the Titans with seven rebounds as Westminster held a 47-36 rebound advantage. Junior point guard Kaitlin McCarthy (Lowellville) tied a season high with six assists for Westminster to go with two points. Sophomore guard Emily Montone (Sharpsville) and freshmen forward Andi Ridge also bucketed eight points apiece. Reserves Hannah Hunter and Paige Pearce led Waynesburg (4-7, 1-3) with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Grove City 54, Chatham 44
PITTSBURGH — Grove City (5-6, 3-1 PAC) closed the game on a 12-2 run over the final five minutes. Junior forward Christine Slater ignited the run with a tie-breaking 3-point goal. Slater and senior forward Laura Miller both hit a pair of free throws to extend the Wolverine lead to 49-42 with 1:06 left. In the final minute, Slater and freshman guard Leah Gibson both sank two free throws to help seal the win. Slater led all scorers with 19 points, including 7-for-8 accuracy at the foul line. She scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half. Grove City trailed by as many as nine points, 15-6, in the first half before closing the gap to 19-16 by intermission. Grove City took its first lead of the game early in the second half on back-to-back baskets from Miller and senior forward Krista Beechy. The second half featured 11 lead changes and six ties. Beechy added nine points and a team-leading eight rebounds. Barb Petty led Chatham (5-6, 1-3 PAC) with 15 points and eight rebounds.
