Sebring to induct four into Hall of Fame
SEBRING — Sebring McKinley High School will induct four former standouts into its Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday night.
The ceremony will be held during the Trojans’ boys basketball game against Wellsville.
Mark Kerns (class of 1979) earned four letters in baseball and was a member of three sectional title teams, two District runners-up, and a member of the record-setting 1976 team, which went 25-2.
During his four-year career, Kerns had 12 games with 10 or more strikeouts, five games with fourteen or more strikeouts, and two games with 15 or more strikeouts. He struck out 175 in 111 innings, compiling a 12-4 career record.
Donald Kerr (’88) earned three letters in basketball, one in football, two in golf, one in baseball and one in track.
As a senior, Kerr was first team all-league, and All-NEO and second team all-state in basketball. He finished with 917 career points which is ninth all-time in school history.
Greg VanKirk (’03) won three letters in basketball and one in football.
He was twice named all-league and All-NEO, was second team all-state as a junior and first team as a senior. He led Sebring to back-to-back district championships in 2002 and 2003.
David Scarpitti (’04) won three letters in basketball. He was twice selected All-NEO and was district player of the year as a senior. He was a member of two TCL championship teams, three district champions, a regional runner-up and a regional champion. Scarpitti played in 65 career wins, a school record.
