Cobalt sales down 44 percent for 2009


Sales of the Chevrolet Cobalt were down in December, which ended a dismal year for the locally produced model.

General Motors said today that it sold 8,672 Cobalts last month, down 32 percent from the 12,786 that were sold in December 2008.

For all of 2009, GM sold 104,724 Cobalts, down 44 percent from the 188,038 that were sold in the previous year.

The car is produced at GM’s Lordstown complex.

Overall, GM’s sales were down 10 percent in December and 33 percent for 2009.
