Agreement reached in El Patio Motel case

YOUNGSTOWN — Attorneys have reached an agreement in a civil case against the El Patio Motel in Canfield.

Mark Fortunato, a Mahoning County assistant prosecutor and Canfield city attorney, sat down today with the defense lawyers for El Patio owner Arthur Klein to determine what should be done to the motel.

The El Patio, 485 W. Main St., has been boarded up as a public nuisance since May after Klein and two others were charged with crimes related to prostitution inside the facility.

Judge Lou A. D’Apolito of common pleas court said before the agreement is made public it will be presented to him in writing. The judge said he will review and sign it in the next few days.

Canfield police and attorneys for both sides were unable to comment due to a gag order.

Klein pleaded guilty Monday before Judge D’Apolito to a felony charge of promoting prostitution. The judge said he will determine Klein's punishment after a pre-sentencing investigation. He said the investigation should take about five weeks.
