COLUMBUS — T.J. Galiardi crashed the net and scored on a rebound with just under a minute left to give the Avalanche the victory. Colorado’s Milan Hejduk carried the puck into the offensive zone and fired the puck at goalie Steve Mason. Mason stopped the puck but it bounced to the left circle where Galiardi, who was trailing the play, collected it and beat Mason with 57.8 seconds left. Kyle Cumiskey and Chris Stewart also scored for the Avalanche, who have won nine of 13 overall and five of their last six road games. Kristian Huselius and Derick Brassard had goals for Columbus, which hasn’t scored more than two goals in its last 10 games and has lost 20 of its last 23 (3-13-7).

Islanders 6, Thrashers 5, SO

UNIONDALE, N.Y. — Jeff Tambellini and Frans Nielsen scored shootout goals to lift the Islanders. Atlanta, which erased two three-goal deficits, lost for the eighth straight time, but picked up points for a second straight night following an overtime loss to Buffalo.

CALGARY, Alberta — Curtis Glencross scored the go-ahead goal on a power play midway through the second period and added an empty-netter in the Flames’ victory.

Kings 2, Capitals 1

LOS ANGELES — Michal Handzus scored a short-handed goal early in the third period to put Los Angeles ahead, and Ryan Smyth connected on a power play, leading the Kings.

Hurricanes 2, Rangers 1, OT

NEW YORK — Ray Whitney scored at 3:45 of overtime to give Carolina a split in the home-and-home series and its third victory in 20 road games this season. Cam Ward made 27 saves, and Tom Kostopoulos had a goal for Carolina, last in the NHL with 29 points.

Canucks 3, Stars 1

DALLAS — Daniel Sedin scored the go-ahead goal on a power play early in the third period, and Roberto Luongo made 31 saves for Vancouver. Ryan Kesler had a second-period goal and Alex Burrows added an empty-netter.
