BETHANY, W.Va. — Behind 25 points and 20 rebounds from senior forward Joe Testa, the Bethany men’s basketball team rolled to an upset victory over ninth-ranked John Carroll. Testa hit 11-of-19 from the floor to set a new career-high with 25 points, hauled down 20 rebounds for the second time in the last three games and also made five steals. The 6-3 forward became the first Bison to surpass 20 points and 20 rebounds in a game since current assistant coach Matt Drahos totaled 32 and 26 in a victory over Westminster Jan. 28, 2006. Other big efforts from the Green and White came from Dustin Opalka (Lakeview), who scored 12 of his career-high 18 in the second half. Freshman Nick Wilcox recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 boards, while Jay Lyonett reached double figures with 10 markers. Ryan McFadden registered nine points, eight assists and five rebounds. John Carroll’s efforts were paced by Matt Crozier with 21 points and Corey Shontz with 19.
Claremont-Mudd Scripps 62, Westminster 40
ASADENA, Calif. — Westminster was limited to a season-low point total in the first day of the Caltech Holiday Classic in Pasadena, Calif. The Titans (2-9) have lost five straight games including three straight during their four-game road trip to California. CMS improved to 7-3. For a second straight game, senior forward Ryne Murray led the Titans with a double-double. Murray tied a game-high with 14 points while grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds for the 32nd double-double of his career. Sophomore forward Rob Briggs also bucketed nine points while snaring five boards for Westminster. Murray and Briggs accounted for 15 of Westminster’s 25 rebounds as the Stags held a significant edge on the glass with by pulling down 45 rebounds. Chris Blees and Conner Faught led the Stags with 14 points apiece, while Patrick Lacey deposited 10 points. Jason Toney, one of six Stags with at least four rebounds, led CMS with six rebounds to go with nine points. Westminster shot 32.7 percent (16-49) from the floor, including 3-19 from 3-point range. CMS was 40.4 percent (21-52) from the field. The Titans led by as many as four points in the first half before the Stags tied the game for the fifth time at halftime with a 20-20 score. CMS then went on a 17-6 run to start the second half to take an 11-point, 37-26 lead with 14:13 remaining. Westminster cut the deficit to single digits just once after that as the Stags cruised to the victory by way of a 15-4 run between the 13:55 and 6:37 marks.
Rutgers-Newark 85, Hiram 59
ARLINGTON, Va. — Junior forward Babajide Eniola scored 14 points on five-of-10 shooting for Hiram (5-5) in its first game of the Marymount University Holiday Classic. Rutgers-Newark (8-3) never trailed in the game and outscored Hiram, 18-7, in the first 6:20 to reach its first double-digit lead. The Raiders had three players score in double figures led by DeShawn Singleton with a game-high 18 points on seven-of-11 shooting (63.6 percent). He also grabbed a game-tying high seven rebounds. James Johnson was second with 16 points followed by Phil Barnes with 14 points to go along with seven boards.

Mount Union 77, Case Western Reserve 57
ALLIANCE — Mount Union (12-0) is off to its best start in team history after a victory over Case Western. Senior guard Tessa Pohovey had a game-high 17 points, freshman guard Rosa LaMattina had 12 while sophomore forward Amanda Rose and junior center Lauren Forquer each had 11 points to pace Mount Union. Case Western Reserve (9-2) lost for only the second time this season and was led by senior Ashleigh Tondo (McDonald), who had 11 points to go over 1,000 points for her career. Mount Union torched the nets in the opening half hitting 17-of-28 shots (60.7-percent) with seven 3-pointers and held Case to 29.4-percent from the floor (10-of-34). The Purple Raiders kept the pressure on in the second half as the Spartans got no closer than 15 points the rest of the way.
