Instead of a winter break rest, Stephanie Brandenstein spent her time off from school making a stop-motion film.

The junior at Canfield High School is one of 16 student groups coming together for “Synergy of the Arts” this Friday. “Synergy of the Arts” combines music, art, cake decorating and more into one performance.

A calendar was created to give each student or group one week to create their art. However, each artist had to use the previous work as their inspiration, similar to a game of telephone where the first person passes something along to the next and the original statement changes as it goes from person to person, Heikkinen said.

Natalina Valley, Carlina Valley, Brianne Rothbauer and Danielle Goddard are the only people who know the original statement, which was taken from a fortune cookie. The four wrote a song inspired from the fortune, which in turn inspired the next group of performers.

The skills presented encompass a wide range, including Nathalie McClune, who designed and crocheted a dress. When Brandenstein finishes her stop-motion film, she will give it to Olivia Johntony, who will make a cake.

The fortune will be revealed at “Synergy of the Arts,” which starts at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Canfield High School. Admission is $5 and proceeds benefit the Canfield arts programs.
