Wash towel before using for softness, max absorbency.

Don’t trust the hype: “Super-sized” compared with what? “Softer” than ... sandpaper? Who decides that it “Dries up to 20 percent faster?”

Fabric softeners in wash cycle reduce absorbency; some dryer sheets make towels water repellent, too.

Trust your hand. Give towels a good feel in the store.

Heavy towels often take longer to dry on the rack and in the dryer (using more energy).

Sheared or velour-type towels look good but are lousy for getting you dry.
