The East Palestine man returns to court next week.

NEW SPRINGFIELD — An East Palestine man faces four counts of felonious assault stemming from a stabbing last weekend outside of the Petersburg Country Club.

Ryan Powell, 26, of Garfield Avenue, East Palestine, turned himself in Friday at Struthers Municipal Court, said Michael Tablack, Springfield Township police detective.

A warrant had been issued earlier this week, the detective said. Powell was released after posting bond. He is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing March 5.

Police were called early Feb. 21 to the Petersburg Country Club, Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road, on a fight report.

A 25-year-old New Springfield woman, who was with her 25-year-old boyfriend, also of New Springfield, asked someone who was standing by her van to move.

A man, later identified as Powell, stabbed the woman in the neck. Her boyfriend went to protect her and was cut on his hand.

A 29-year-old New Springfield man also tried to protect the woman and was stabbed in his neck and received a cut above his eye, police have said.

A 29-year-old East Palestine man saw what was happening and wrestled the knife away, but not before having his hand cut, police said.

The three men who were cut refused medical treatment. The woman was treated and released from St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown.

Tablack said the investigation is continuing.
