Lady Spartan bowlers capture league, sectional titles

In a span of five days, the Boardman girls bowling team captured not one, but two tournament wins.
On Feb 15, the Spartans won their second consecutive outright Federal League crown.
Seeded first in the best-of-five stepladder series, the ladies easily eliminated both Uniontown Lake and Massillon Jackson three games to none.
In the championship Baker match, the Spartans defeated No. 2 seed, Austintown Fitch three games to one.
The final game, a 215-160 Boardman win, officially marked the end of the 2010 Federal League season where the Lady Spartans finished 8-0 in league play and 15-0 overall.
Boardman began the postseason by dominating the 34-team sectional field at Holiday Bowl in Struthers.
The squad beat second-place Hubbard by 256 pins to win the sectional title and advance to Sunday’s district finals.
Senior Ciarra Moran (236-688) and Tiffany Dugan (221-635) led the way for Boardman. The Spartans took the early lead in team play, tossing games of 1,007, 939 and 1,017 to post a 2,963 event total.
Amanda Van Fossan added 209-579 and Angela Koczowka chipped in with a 224 to help pace the Spartans.
In Baker play, the Spartans opened the action with a 232 game and never looked back, capturing the event with a 4,050 total pin count.
The top eight teams will compete at districts Sunday at Hall of Fame Lanes in Canton. Those teams include Boardman, Hubbard, Struthers, Niles McKinley, Austintown Fitch, Canfield, McDonald and Girard.
