The kindergarten, first and second grades at Dobbins Elementary School rang in the 100th day of school Feb. 18 with celebrations of the number 100.

The second-grade class joined in a celebration of the 100th day of school by raising money for Haitian relief.

“Our class has been trying to raise $100 by the 100th day of school,” Tyler Berry, a second-grade student said.

The class exceeded its goals, collecting $175 in a jar that they put outside the second-grade classrooms.

The class will donate the money to Feed the Children, an organization that sends relief supplies to kids in Haiti. The class liked Feed the Children because it helped kids like them, Bailey Swogger, a second-grade student, said.

The second-grade classes celebrated the 100th day by decorating cupcakes with the number 100. They also wrote down things they would do with $100 — ideas included buying another brother and building a swimming pool.

Other 100th Day events included listing 100 facts about U.S. presidents and figuring out different ways to count to 100.

First-grade students partnered with their third-grade buddies to see how far they could get by taking 100 steps. The first grade also brainstormed 100 words that they knew and thought about things that they could do 100 times, such as blinking and spinning around in circles.

Kindergarten students practiced counting to 100 and brought in 100 items for show-and-tell. The kindergarten classes also made crowns to commemorate the day and wore them while they counted out 100 snacks.
