Canfield swimmers advance to state

The Canfield High School swimming and diving team have a date with state.

The Cardinals advanced for relays and two individuals to the state meet at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton. The top five in each event qualified from last week’s district meet at Cleveland State University.

In the girls’ competition, Canfield’s 200 and 400 free relays placed fifth and will advance to state. Both relays broke their own school record. The 200 relay team of Johnna Dunkel, Hilary Allen, Kathryn Mason and Emily King posted a time of 1:39.84. In the 400 relay, the same squad grabbed the final qualifying spot with a time of 3:38.30.

King made it to state as an at-large bid in the 100 butterfly and 100 free. She broke the school record in the 100 fly. Elizabeth Wilkens advanced to state in diving.

In the boys’ events, Canfield’s 200 and 400 free relays made it to state. The 200 team of Gavin Trebilcock, Steve Dalvin, Ryan O’Malley and Garrett Trebilcock swam a 1:27.13 to finish second.

The quartet took fourth in the 400 with a time of 3:14.92. Garrett Trebilcock is an individual automatic qualifier after winning the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:55.89 and taking fourth in the 100 free (47.49).
