Austintown youth wrestlers excel in 2010

The Austintown Youth Wrestling Club concluded its 2009-2010 wrestling season Feb. 14 at the Ohio Youth Wrestling Association state tournament.

The club had four wrestlers qualify for the 2010 state tournament. — Justin Goist, Alexander Mackall, Anthony Moffo and Adam Green.

Each of these sixth-graders were 2010 team captains.

All the qualifiers won at least one match at the state tournament. Mackall finished third and Goist was just one win away from the medal round.

The club had nine district qualifiers this season. They included Anthony Winterburn (sectional third place), Drew Fairbanks (sectional champion), Adam Wilps (sectional champion), Justin Goist (sectional and district champion), Alexander Mackall (sectional and district champion), Anthony Moffo (sectional champion, district runner-up), Lyndell McGeechy (sectional fourth place), Adam Green (sectional champion, districts fourth place) and Tex Martin (sectional champion).

This season, the youth varsity team competed in eight dual meets against other local youth wrestling clubs at Austintown Fitch High School and wrestled in six of the best youth wrestling tournaments in northern Ohio.
