Mount loses 71-60 in OAC tourney at Wilmington


WILMINGTON — Mount Union was eliminated from the Ohio Athletic Conference men’s basketball tournament with a 71-60 loss to No. 2 seed Wilmington on Wednesday night.

The Purple Raiders (11-15) were led by Dave Pellerite who scored a game-high 25 points. Matt Weir (Mohawk) and Jimmy Wood added 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Mount Union.

Wilmington (19-7), which never trailed in the game, was led by Brandon Rogers with 21 points and rebounds. The win was the first in an OAC tournament game for the Quakers since 2006.

Wilmington led 34-27 at halftime but the Purple Raiders closed to 41-40 midway through the second half. The Quakers then went on a 10-2 run to lead 51-42 and were not threatened again.

Wilmington will take on No. 3 seed Capital in the tournament semifinals on Friday. No. 1 seed John Carroll will play No. 5 Heidelberg in the other semifinal.

California (Pa.) 72, Slippery Rock 63

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Maron Brown scored 19 points and had 16 rebounds to lead Slippery Rock (15-11, 4-9 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference). Bryen Spriggs added 15 points for The Rock.

Kelsey Williams led a balanced attack for California (18-10, 6-7) with 14 points and he added seven rebounds. Chad Tipton added 13 points, while Andrew Young scored 12, Rashawd Hatten had 11 and Joe Berenato came off the bench to score 10.

Women

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Julie Molloy scored 18 points as Slippery Rock fell to California (Pa.), 77-63, in a PSAC West game.

Chere’ Marshall added 11 points for The Rock (6-20, 3-10).

Brooque Williams had 27 points to lead California (20-6, 10-3), while Kayla Smith finished with 21 points, 13 rebounds and six assists. Amy Johns added 18 points for the Vulcans.
