Dana concert to feature acclaimed Chinese choir
YOUNGSTOWN — The Dana spring choral concert featuring the Dana choral ensembles and the Peiyang Chorus of Tianjin University, China, will be March 19 at St. Columba Cathedral, 159 W. Rayen Ave. The concert will mark the Dana School of Music’s 140th anniversary. The Peiyang Chorus, one of the best college choirs in China, has performed in more than 30 countries.
The Dana choral ensembles will present music written by influential American composer Morten Lauridsen, including “Lux Aeterna,” considered a choral masterpiece. The Peiyang Chorus will present all Chinese music written by contemporary Chinese composers. At the end of the program, both choirs will join for “Praise His Holy Name,” a gospel song. Admission is free but an offering will be collected to defray the Peiyang Chorus’ tour expenses. For more information, call (330) 941-3636.

‘My Name Is Ruth’ benefit performance
YOUNGSTOWN — The 34west Theater Company will present the romantic-comedy “My Name Is Ruth” at The Embassy, 5030 Youngstown-Poland Road, on April 9 to benefit the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley. Reserved seating is $50 and available by calling the Rescue Mission at (330) 744-5485. Reservations are required.
“My Name is Ruth” is set in the early 1950s. Ruth, a young Minnesota widow, moves to the big city for a fresh start. However, when she and her aging mother-in-law fall into dire straits, they need the help of a bashful businessman in order to survive. The unlikely couple forges an alliance, and romance blossoms, but both will have to sacrifice everything they have in order to save the ones they love.
The evening will begin with a formal buffet at 6:30 p.m. Dessert, courtesy of Springfield Grill, will be served during the production.
TRU guests on ‘Debor’ah’
YOUNGSTOWN — National recording artists TRU will be the guests on the “Debor’ah” show, which will be taped at 6 p.m. Friday at the Linmar Strategies studio, on the fourth floor of the PNC Bank Building, 16 Wick Ave., downtown. Tickets are $10 and are available at Goldie’s Flower Shop on Belmont Avenue and at the studio. TRU will perform on the show and be interviewed by host Debor’ah Benton. Also appearing will be local singers Tracie Prisby, Karla Seldon and Keysha Toney.
