Inmate challenges injection procedures

COLUMBUS (AP) — An inmate scheduled to die next month for strangling a 67-year-old woman wants his execution delayed while he challenges Ohio’s injection procedures.

Lawrence Reynolds asked U.S. District Court Judge Gregory Frost on Tuesday to put his March 9 execution on hold while he files objections to the state’s new injection process.

The 43-year-old Reynolds asks Frost to have a trial on his arguments before March 9 if a delay isn’t possible.

Reynolds says the state hasn’t worked out problems with accessing inmates’ veins that have caused problems in the past.

Reynolds also says a new backup method injecting lethal drugs into muscles is untried and could cause pain.

Prosecutors say Reynolds strangled neighbor Loretta Foster in Cuyahoga Falls near Akron in 1994 for money to fuel his alcohol addiction.
