Local sales of new, used vehicles fell in January

YOUNGSTOWN — New- and used-vehicle sales dipped last month, said the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio.

Dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties sold 1,241 new vehicles last month, down 15 percent from the 1,458 that were sold in January 2009. The leading dealers last month were the Honda Store in Boardman and Sweeney Chevrolet in Boardman, which both sold 68 vehicles.

Dealers sold 2,535 used vehicles last month, which was down 17 percent from the 3,053 that were sold in January 2009. Greenwood Chevrolet Hummer in Austintown was the leading used-vehicle dealer with 83 sales last month.

Mahoning, Trumbull post rise in home sales

YOUNGSTOWN — Home sales rose in Mahoning and Trumbull counties in January but fell in Columbiana County.

The Youngstown Columbiana Association of Realtors said Mahoning County had 111 home sales that closed last month at an average sale price of $69,535, compared with 98 closings in January 2009 at an average sale price of $64,029.

Trumbull County posted 89 closings last month at an average sale price of $63,753, compared with 68 closings in January 2009 at an average price of $73,294.

Columbiana County had 31 closings last month at an average sale price of $85,691, compared with 35 closings in January 2009 at an average price of $55,703.
