Howland rolls in opener; Lakeview tops Edgewood


WARRENSVILLE HEIGHTS — Taylor Williams scored 18 points with 10 rebounds and Howland outscored Lincoln West 23-0 in the first quarter to roll to a 73-20 win in a Division I sectional opener at Warrensville Heights High School Monday.

Camille Cvengros added 12 points for the Tigers (18-3), Olivia Nicholas had seven points and four assists and Erika Nites had seven points and five steals.

The Tigers will meet Valley Forge at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

McKinley 89, Chaney 15

ALLIANCE — Ameryst Alston scored 17 points to lead McKinley (18-2), which led 36-4 after one quarter in a Div. I sectional semifinal at Alliance High School.

Laniece McRae scored eight points for Chaney (5-16).

Division II

Lakeview 43, Ash. Edgewood 32

PYMATUNING VALLEY — Alli Gagne scored 22 points and Alisha Nichols had six points and 10 rebounds to lead Lakeview (5-16), which outscored Edgewood 9-1 in the third quarter to take a 31-20 lead entering the fourth.

Jamie Sentner had 10 points for the Bulldogs, who will play Geneva at 6 p.m. Thursday at Py. Valley High.

Meghan Cunha had seven points for Edgewood (8-13).

Division IV

Lowellville 77, Jackson-Milton 29

HUBBARD — Taylor Hvisdak scored 16 points and Ashley Moore and Kaye Solak each had 13 for the Rockets (18-3) in a sectional semifinal at Hubbard High School.

The Rockets will meet the winner of today’s Maplewood-Heartland Christian game at 4 p.m. Saturday.

Melinda Cross scored 10 points for the Bluejays (1-20).

Columbiana 61, Southern 36

HUBBARD — Senior Katie Witmer scored 21 points and Columbiana outscored Southern 23-12 to take control.

Witmer, who had all 10 of her team’s first-quarter points, also had nine rebounds.

Senior Irene Coy continued to build on her single-season school blocks record with 89. Coy had three blocks, 10 rebounds and nine points on Monday. Lisa Simon had the previous record of 82.

Hayley Goist added 10 points and eight assists for the Clippers (8-13), who will play Warren JFK at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Maddy Dowling scored 15 points for Southern (4-16).
