YSU Symphonic, Concert bands to be featured in musical event

YOUNGSTOWN — Youngstown State University and the Dana School of Music Concert Series will present “Songs & Dances for Wind & Percussion,” featuring the YSU Symphonic Band and the YSU Concert Band, at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave.

The Symphonic Band will begin the program with a repertoire including:

“Kirkpatrick Fanfare” by Andrew Boysen Jr.; “Cajun Folk Songs” by Frank Ticheli; “Old Churches” by Michael Colgrass; “Hebrides Suite” by Clare Grundman; and “The Black Horse Troop” by John Philip Sousa.

After a 15-minute intermission, the YSU Concert Band will perform these selections:

“Fanfare and Allegro” by J. Clifton Williams; Song for Lyndsay by Andrew Boysen, Jr.; “Incantation and Dance” by John Barnes Chance; “Bayou Breakdown” by Brant Karrick; “Sketches on a Tudor Psalm” by Fisher Tull; and “Circus Bee” by James Henry Fillmore, Jr.

General admission is $5 ($4 for seniors and students; free for children under 12 and anyone with a YSU ID). Tickets are only available at the door.

The concert will be recorded by Take Note Productions, and CDs of the performance will be available in the foyer of Stambaugh Auditorium for $12.
