State swimming and diving qualifiers finalized

Ten individuals and four relays have qualified for the state swimming and diving championships, which begin Wednesday at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.

Leading the way is Canfield High School, which qualified all four relays — 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays in both boys and girls — and individuals Garrett Trebilcock, Emily King and Elizabeth Wilkens.

Trebilcock, a senior, qualified in the 200 individual medley (ranking with the fifth-fastest qualifying time of 1 minute, 55.89 seconds) and the 100 free (47.49, 16th).

King, also a senior, qualified in the 100 butterfly (58.75, 21st) and 100 free (53.30, 23rd).

Both Trebilcock and King will compete in preliminary heat events starting Friday.

Also Wilkens advanced in diving and will compete on Wednesday.

In Div. II, seven individuals advanced in 12 events.

Cardinal Mooney’s Nick and Joe Boniface both qualified in two events.

Nick Boniface will compete in the 50 free (21.82, 7th) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.26, 17th).

Joe Boniface will compete in the 50 free (22.29, 17th) and the 100 backstroke (55.97, 22nd).

In the girls competition, Poland’s Tricia Vallinger and Anna Sabol qualified in diving. They will compete on Thursday afternoon.

Three other individuals qualified in two events each.

Katie Joseph, a junior at McDonald, has the fourth-fastest qualifying time in both the 200 free (1:54.41) and the 100 free (52.46).

Maplewood junior Jordan Moxley is ranked No. 3 in the 100 free (52.34) and No. 2 in the 50 free (23.66).

And Lakeview’s Emilee Gysegem, a junior, will compete in the 200 IM (2:07.33, third) and 100 back (58.03, fifth).

The Div. II preliminaries will be held Friday afternoon.

The championships are scheduled for Saturday, with Div. I events starting at 9 a.m. and Div. II at 5 p.m.
