CANFIELD — City residents will be asked for their input on storm-water projects during a 7 p.m. meeting today in council chambers.

City Manager Joseph Warino said officials will make a presentation on past and proposed projects. Officials also will discuss grants they’ve applied for in the past and complaints they’ve received.

Refuge Ministries event

LIBERTY — Refuge Ministries Inc., 1155 Church Hill-Hubbard Road, will host an open house at 6 p.m. Saturday.

Refuge, a certified nonprofit organization, offers an after-school program geared to 11- to 17-year-olds. Tutoring, computer use, mentorship, fitness programs and free meals are offered.

Free help with taxes

CAMPBELL — Neighborhood Ministries in Campbell is offering free help with taxes to low- and middle-income families.

Services are available in English and in Spanish.

Trained volunteers prepare and electronically file returns.

Campbell maintenance

CAMPBELL — City administrator Lewis Jackson said the city will begin replacing garage doors at the police department.

Police Chief Gus Sarigian-opoulos had complained that the garage doors stick open, posing a safety hazard because the city’s jail is also at the department.

Jackson said the city received an estimate of about $8,000 for the six doors.

Councilman Michael Tsikouris also said that a long-awaited paving project on 12th Street will begin in April.

A Struthers-Liberty Road project will be bid Thursday, he said.

Wind tunnel for YSU

YOUNGSTOWN — A new public-private partnership has resulted in Youngstown State University’s getting a wind tunnel for its College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

The 16-square-foot cross- section wind tunnel was designed and built by Northern States Metals Inc. of Youngs-town in YSU’s Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.

Northern States, a metal- fabricating and alternative- energy firm, has partnered with YSU for research and development of a new product for the solar-energy industry. The company donated the custom-built wind tunnel as part of a $77,000 research grant to the university.

High-rise generators

YOUNGSTOWN — The board of trustees of the Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority has approved a $702,769 contract for replacement emergency electric generators at its senior high-rise apartments.

Using federal stimulus money, the board entered into a contract Thursday with Tri-Area Electric Co. of Youngstown for the design and installation of the upgraded, natural-gas-fueled generators by the end of this year at Amedia Plaza, Gutknecht Towers, Norton Manor, Vasu Manor, Struthers Manor and Lowellville Park Apartments.

Tree-seedling sale

CORTLAND — Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District is having a tree-seedling sale through April 9.

Pickup for the orders will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 14-16 at the flower barn next to the fair office at Trumbull County Fairgrounds, Hoagland-Blackstub Road, Bazetta Township.
