Jordan Moxley keys Maplewood

CLEVELAND — Jordan Moxley of Maplewood won the 50-yard freestyle event at the Division II northeast district swimming meet Saturday with a time of 23.66 seconds.

Moxley came back to place second in the 100 freestyle with a clocking of 52.34.

Sarah Koucheki of Gates Mills Hawken narrowly won the event (52.09).

The top three finishers in each event advance to the state meet next weekend. Several others will earn at-large berths based on statewide times from this weekend.

Saturday’s action was held at Cleveland State University.

Behind Moxley’s performance, Maplewood scored 37 points to place 17th in the girl’s meet.

Hawken won the girl’s portion of the meet with 503 points, trailed by Shaker Heights Hathaway Brown (244).

Rocky River took third (191) while Chagrin Falls was fourth (177) and Revere fifth (159).

Lakeview took 15th place in the girl’s meet with 43 points while McDonald ended with 33 points for 18th place and Poland was 19th with 31 points.

In the 200-yard freestyle Katie Joseph of McDonald swam 1:54.41 to place second.

She was just edged by Morgan Cohara of Gates Mills Hawken (1:52.85).

Both are going to the state competition.

Emilee Gysegem of Lakeview was second in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:07.33.

She was defeated by Carrie Bencic of Hawken who had a time of 2:06.84.

Hawken took all three places in the 100-yard butterfly: Sarah Koucheki was first (56.25), Kaitlyn Cerne second (57.80) and Caroline Vexler came in third (59.20).

Huntington Valley University School racked up 436 points to easily win the boy’s meet.

Pepper Pike Orange was second with 213 points and Cardinal Mooney was 13th place with 53 points.

Mooney’s Nick Boniface took third place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21.82 to advance to state.

Chagrin Falls took third place in the boys meet with 195 points and Walsh Jesuit was fourth (189).

Richfield Revere took fifth with 166 points and Gates Mills Hawken had 157 for sixth place.

Orrville was seventh (140), trailed by Chesterland Kenston (126) and Rocky River (99.5).
