Butler runs over Siena in BracketBuster; CSU win big

INDIANAPOLIS — Shelvin Mack scored 23 points and Gordon Hayward had 15 points and 12 rebounds to lead No. 18 Butler to a 70-53 victory over Siena on Saturday that extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 17 games.

It was the biggest attraction in this year’s BracketBusters showcase, pitting two of the nation’s hottest teams. Butler (25-4), the Horizon League regular-season champion, hasn’t lost since Dec. 22.

Siena (22-6), the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season champion, had won 16 of its previous 17 and had held the distinction of having the nation’s longest winning streak until a Feb. 12 loss at Niagara.

Clarence Jackson had 24 points and Ryan Rossiter added 10 for the Saints, who have not beaten a ranked opponent on the road since moving to Division I in 1976-77.

Cleveland State 87, Toledo 63

CLEVELAND — Norris Cole scored 18 points and Cleveland State snapped a three-game losing streak.

Charlie Woods scored 15 points, Jeremy Montgomery and D’Aundray Brown added 14 each and Tim Kamczyc had 12 points for the Vikings (14-15).

Jake Barnett paced the Rockets (3-25) with 15 points, Justin Anyjong added 13 points and Jordan Dressler had 12.

Ohio University 64, Wright State 59

ATHENS, Ohio — Armon Bassett scored 26 points, 20 in the second half, to lead Ohio over Wright State.

DeVaughn Washington added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Bobcats.

Todd Brown scored 11 points and Cory Cooperwood 10 for the Raiders of the Horizon League.

Detroit 68, E. Michigan 66

DETROIT — Thomas Kennedy scored 15 points and Eli Holman added 14 as Detroit held off Eastern Michigan. Woody Payne had 13 points and 10 assists for the Titans (16-13), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Carlos Medlock scored 21 points and Brandon Bowdry 18 for the Eagles (14-13).

Bowling Green 87, Valparaiso 70

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio — Dee Brown scored 20 points and Scott Thomas tallied a double-double, leading Bowling Green past Valparaiso. Joe Jakubowski added 19 points and Erik Marschall had 17 for the Falcons (14-12), who shot 54.5 percent from the floor.
