MODEL MEMBERS: Due to the efforts of Angels of Easter Seals, the popular American Girl Fashion Show and Luncheon is returning to the Valley on March 13 and 14 at Mr. Anthony’s in Boardman. Chairmen of this year’s event are, from left, Carol O’Neill, Mary Celeste Van Sickle, Julie Costas, Betty Cmil, Denise DeBartolo York and Phyllis Bacon, Angels president.

For the second year in a row, the American Girl Fashion Show and Luncheon will offer a fun-filled afternoon for young girls and their families and friends, thanks to the efforts of the Angels of Easter Seals.

This year’s two-day event is March 13 and 14 at Mr. Anthony’s, 7440 South Ave. in Boardman. Shows are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. each day; doors will open a half-hour before each show.

There will be refreshments and door prizes, and the young girls attending are encouraged to take their American Girl Dolls with them.

Proceeds will benefit the Easter Seals of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana Counties.

About the show

The presentation of historical to contemporary fashions will allow the audience to learn how clothing has changed over the years to reflect history, culture and individual styles.

Fashions will include historical clothing resembling outfits that might have been worn by American Girl character dolls Kaya, Felicity, Josefina, Addy, Samantha, Kit and Molly, along with contemporary “Just Like You” outfits for older girls and Bitty Baby fashions for little ones.

Local girls will serve as models, and junior and senior girls from Ursuline High School will narrate the programs. Area high school girls will help backstage as dressers, sell raffle tickets and serve as hostesses.

Chances to win

There will be raffles for the following:

• Just Like You Doll with salon chair and hair-care kit

• Bitty Baby Twins Set

• Bitty Baby Starter Collection

• Rebecca Collection (the new historical doll)

• Rebecca and Accessories Collection.

A Chinese auction will take place during each show. Tickets are $5 for a book of six, and winners need not be present. Raffle prizes will be drawn Sunday, March 14, after the last show.

Tickets are $5 each for a special raffle for the new 2010 Doll of the Year, Lanie, and her camper. During each intermission an American Girl Doll will also be raffled off; tickets are $1 each.

Those attending will also have an opportunity to sign up at the Akron Children’s Hospital table for a free drawing for Kit, a popular American Girl Doll to be given away after the last show. Winner need not be present.

Angels will have a limited supply of souvenirs, which may be preordered. Books, miniature American Girl Dolls and other items will also be sold.

TWO CHANCES TO WIN YOUR OWN DOLL

In conjunction with the Angels of Easter Seals’ American Girl Fashion Show and Luncheon, The Vindicator is conducting both a contest and a drawing as two great opportunities to win an American Girl Doll.

THE CONTEST

The story of Molly McIntire, one of the first three historical characters of the American Girl product line, portrays a very lively and patriotic 9-year-old girl living in 1944. Part of the six-book series that tells her story focuses on her awareness of the sacrifices that were being made during the World War II era.

The Vindicator is giving young girls ages 8 to 12 in the area a chance to win their very own Molly McIntire doll by submitting a brief essay about their own awareness of sacrifices.

Girls, tell us in 100 words or fewer about a person in your life who makes sacrifices that make your own life better. It can be a parent or grandparent, brother or sister, friend or neighbor. Here’s a chance to acknowledge that person’s sacrifices for you.

Send your entry to:

The Vindicator

Attn. Barb Shaffer, Society/Features Editor

P.O. Box 780

Youngstown, OH 44501

Or e-mail it to:

society@vindy.com

The deadline is Friday, March 5. Entries must include the girl’s name, age, city of residence and telephone number.

The winner will be notified Monday, March 8, and her winning entry will be printed in The Vindicator and online at www.vindy.com/dolls on Sunday, March 14.

Some of the other entries the judges like will also be posted online.

THE DRAWING

If you don’t qualify for the writing contest, The Vindicator will also be giving adults 18 and older a chance to call in and enter a drawing for Julie Albright, a fun-loving San Francisco girl.

Watch for details in coming editions and online to see how you can enter.
