Poland-Canfield basketball tickets

The Poland High School athletic department will have presale tickets available Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the Feb. 26 boys basketball game against Canfield.

A limited amount of Poland Activity Passes will be accepted the night of the game, so arrive early. Tickets will remain on sale until completely sold out. Doors will open the night of the game at 5 p.m. Contact the athletic office at 330-757-7021 for information.

Stoops scholarship dinner is Sunday in Boardman

Twelve individuals will be inducted into the Cardinal Mooney High School Athletic Hall of Fame at the Ron Stoops Scholarship Dinner on Sunday at Mr. Anthony’s. The inductees are: William S. Diorio (football, track); Tom Flynn (baseball coach); Lester Pakalnis (football); Mario Petrino (baseball); Jada Ransome (track); Joe Remish (track/basketball) and Nicole Ross-Truby (golf).

Also being inducted will be Bob Susor (football); John J. Thomas (football); Marty Tinkler (football); Preston Wells (basketball) and Al Williamson (significant contributions). For reservations, call 330-788-5007.

Poland swimmers headed to district meet

Six Poland Seminary swimmers and divers advanced to districts after solid performances at last week’s sectional meet at the University of Akron.

Competing in Division II, three Lady Bulldog divers made the cut in the 1 meter diving competition. The trio includes freshman Celia Melillo, senior Tricia Vallinger and junior Anna Sabol.

Sophomore Becca Stewart posted a time of 5:47.80 in the 500-yard freestyle to move on to districts.

In the boys’ competition, senior Brian Cowles qualified for districts in two individual events. His time of 2:07.81 in the 200-yard individual medley made the cut, as did his 56.73 effort in the 100-yard butterfly.

Junior Ian Harker advanced in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.49.

District finals are being contested today at Cleveland State University.
