The importance of recycling was demonstrated through a short play during Right to Read Week.

Market Street Elementary was treated with Magic Carpet performers, Oakland Youngstown Center for Arts, Feb. 5 in honor of Right to Read Week.

The Magic Carpet explained, through a mermaid and sea creatures, how littering and not-recycling affects the environment.

The school was split into two large groups for the performances. At the end of the show, the actors revealed their efforts to go green.

Their backdrop was made of old bed sheets, costumes were made of drapes and material from past costumes and props were made from foam and insulation that was no longer needed.

The performance concluded with a simple message, recycle and salvage old materials.
