Falcons finish season strong

The AMS wrestling team completed its 34th season of interscholastic competition by competing in the Eastern Ohio Wrestling League Middle School Tournament at Liberty High School Feb. 12 and 13.

The Falcons’ red squad finished in second place out of 17 teams.

The top five teams were: Canfield Middle School, 224 points; AMS, 215 points; Beaver Local, 204 points; Poland, 191.5 points; and Howland, 191.5 points.

The red team had three champions, two runner-ups, two fourth place winners, and two fifth place winners.

Luke Peterson (134 lbs., 32-3), Camran Rezapourian (150 lbs., 34-1), and Tony Behanna (160 lbs., 33-2) were the champions.

Zach Mackall (98 lbs., 28-6) and Jacob Jameson (110 lbs., 22-12) took second place.

Brett Weidenthal (122 lbs., 31-6) and Patrick Direnzo(128 lbs., 25-8) finished in fourth place.

Desmond Gray (86 lbs., 19-13), Zach Pugh (92 lbs., 18-12), Zak Goist (104 lbs., 14-9) John Morrison (116 lbs., 15-18), and Taylor Balog (142 lbs., 25-10) took fifth place.

The AMS blue team had two place winners. Gary Gibson (134 lbs., 11-5) and Jarid Zatvarnicky (98 lbs., 19-10), finished in fourth place.
