YSU gets wind tunnel

YOUNGSTOWN — A new public-private partnership has resulted in Youngstown State University’s getting a wind tunnel for its College of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

The 16-square-foot cross-section wind tunnel was designed and built by Northern States Metals Inc. of Youngstown in YSU’s Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.

Northern States, a metal fabricating and alternative energy firm, has partnered with YSU for research and development of a new product for the solar energy industry. The company donated the custom-built wind tunnel as part of a $77,000 research grant to the university.
