Formal gowns are needed for prom giveaway project

HOWLAND — Jessica Mason, president of the Interact Club and a member of the National Honor Society at Howland High School, has organized Operation Fairy Godmother, a service project, which will make prom gowns available to students free of charge.

Beautiful gowns and dresses that are hanging in closets and will never be worn again by the owner will be collected and displayed in the multipurpose room of Harding High School. Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. March 20 and 27, young women, who would not otherwise be able to afford a prom gown, may pick out a dress free of charge

There will also be a drawing that will include a discounted limo from FAB Limousines Inc., and a free appointment for a prom hairstyle at Galleria Suites with Melanie Zombar.

Several churches and organizations are cooperating in the project, and will help collect dresses from the public. The gowns can be dropped off at the following locations: St. Charles Boromeo Parish, 7345 Westview Drive, Boardman; Old North Church, 7105 Herbert Road, Canfield; Blessed Sacrament Church, 3020 Reeves Road, Warren; and the YWCA, 375 N. Park Ave., Warren.
