Ohio House honors Right to Life winner

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Ohio House has honored the winner of a National Right to Life speech contest with a presentation the House Speaker initially opposed.

Elisabeth Trisler, 19, of western Ohio’s Shelby County received an honorary resolution on the House floor Wednesday, less than a week after Democratic Speaker Armond Budish decided to allow the brief ceremony.

Earlier, Budish said no, explaining that he was concerned Trisler’s oratory award came from a “politically sensitive” group.

He came under fire from Republicans, abortion opponents and civil libertarians.

The speaker now says he wants to explore whether there should be rules on such floor presentations.

Trisler was honored by the Ohio Senate, without controversy.
