Jury selection coming in toddler death

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jury selection was scheduled to begin in the death penalty trial of a Pittsburgh-area man accused of leaving his 23-month-old daughter outside to die in the freezing weather.

William Lorenzo Page, of Braddock, is charged with criminal homicide and other crimes in the February 2007 death of Nyia Page.

Police found her abandoned body in woods near the family’s home. Police say tiny footprints in the snow suggest Nyia walked around before she died.

Police say Page kicked Nyia in the groin when she kept taking off her diaper. They say Page then took Nyia outside and left her to die in freezing temperatures.

Jury selection will begin Thursday because a judge has rejected claims by Page’s attorneys that he’s mentally challenged.
