Pa. struggling in aftermath of storms

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — From ice-packed city streets to collapsing barn roofs, much of Pennsylvania was still struggling Tuesday in the aftermath of a pair of record-breaking snowstorms that blanketed the state and low temperatures that prevented heavy canopies of ice and snow from melting.

In Philadelphia, some of the city’s side streets remain unplowed after two massive storms dumped a record-setting 40 inches of snow in less than a week. Even streets that were plowed are typically still pocked with bumpy, icy patches left behind.

In Pittsburgh, which was clobbered with about 30 inches of snow between the two storms, flakes were falling again Tuesday, and city crews were working 12-hour shifts to clear snow, both old and new.
