Ohio school paper is back after censorship spat

STOW, Ohio (AP) — A compromise has led an Ohio high school newspaper to publish again after a censorship debate.

The student-run Stow-Munroe Falls High School newspaper near Akron shut down in September. Students had objected to the principal’s refusal to allow them to run a photo of a student who committed suicide.

Carrie Davis with the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio says the compromise allows students to publish under review by a faculty adviser and with an appeals process.

School Superintendent Russ Jones says administrators will maintain their right to look over the paper before it’s published. Any review dispute would wind up before the superintendent.
