Harvest for Hunger kicks off Friday
YOUNGSTOWN — The kick-off of the 19th annual Harvest for Hunger is Friday at 9 a.m. at Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley, 2805 Salt Springs Road.
Harvest for Hunger is a month long food and funds drive in March to help replenish food bank shelves during the spring and summer months when donations taper off, Second Harvest officials said. Last year, the Mahoning Valley community raised over $100,000 and collected 46,117 pounds of food during the drive. All funds raised and food collected stays in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties.
Anyone interested in conducting a food or funds drive to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank should contact Becky Miller at (330) 792-5522 ext. 20. People not able to conduct a food drive or a fund raiser can donate at any local Giant Eagle store or Sparkle Market by tearing off a coupon at the register or dropping food in the collection bin at the front of the store.
Harvest for Hunger 2010 sponsors are: Giant Eagle, 21 WFMJ and WBCB, The Vindicator, Cumulus Radio Stations Y-103, K-105, HOT 101 & Rock 104, UFCW Local 880 and Time Warner Cable.
