Lawrence Co. takes steps to preserve county records

NEW CASTLE, Pa.—Lawrence County commissioners said today they will contract with a New Castle business to transfer the county’s property records back to its founding in 1849 to computer disks and store them in several locations, including underground, to preserve them in case of a fire or natural disaster.

The county is contracting with Record Fusion to copy 421,000 documents which are already on microfilm and to index 44,000 of them at a total cost of $41,863.

Commissioners also opened three bids for garbage collection at five county-owned buildings. Bidders and their monthly rates were: Aiken Refuse, New Castle, $833; Allied Waste Services, Youngstown, $822; and Tri-County Industries, Grove City, $845.
