11 dilapidated Campbell houses to be demolished this month
There are eight houses in the second round of Campbell demolitions.
GOODBYE, BLIGHT: A vacant house at 167 Monroe St. in Campbell is no more. It was one of 11 houses that are being torn down this month with federal funds. Campbell has 137 properties in all that will be razed.
CAMPBELL — The first 11 of 137 properties in the city to be demolished with Neighborhood Stabilization Funds definitely are coming down this month.
Anna DeAscentis, grants manager for the Mahoning County commissioners, said last week that work began on the houses Feb. 1.
ALL Excavating of Youngstown, which is doing the work, said the work should be finished today. The county is administering the demolitions.
Two other properties that were supposed to come down in the first batch, at 23 12th St. and 58 12th St., were held for routine asbestos-exemption tests, DeAscentis said. One of them, 23 12th, already has been rebid in another batch of houses, she said. The other will be rebid also, she said.
ALL Excavating is doing the work for $32,700. Campbell received $727,000 in federal NSF funds for all the properties.
The demolitions include removing and disposing of debris and filling in basements.
The 11 properties are on Second Street, Wilson Avenue, Seventh Street, Monroe Street, Jefferson Street, 10th Street, Gordon Avenue, Devitt Avenue and Tremble Avenue.
DeAscentis said eight more houses have been bid in the next round. Mike Pusateri Excavating of East Liverpool is the apparent low bidder at $17,200, she said.
She said the company will receive the contract for signatures sometime this week.
The companies have 45 days from the day they get a notice-to-proceed to finish the work, DeAscentis said.
