Man charged in crash

YOUNGSTOWN — A city man is facing criminal charges after a weekend crash on Interstate 680.

Jerrell Miles, 21, of Griffith Street, has been charged with driving under suspension after the SUV he was driving ran into a snowbank and then rolled over three times on the freeway shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday. Griffith told police he was trying to avoid a car that cut him off at the time of the accident.

Griffith was in the car with two other unidentified people. All three crawled from the car to safety before police arrived at the scene.

There were no major injuries.

Gas-station robbery

BOARDMAN — Township police are investigating a robbery at the Shell Gas Station in the 8600 block of Glenwood.

The robbery took place shortly after 9 p.m. Police had few details late Sunday.

Pond clinic set in March

CANFIELD — The Mahoning Soil and Water Conservation District will host a pond clinic March 31 in McMahon Hall of Mill Creek MetroPark Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road.

Experts will address issues such as general construction, fish stocking and habitat and weed control.

Cost is $5 per person. A light meal will be provided. Pre-registration is required by March 26; call (330) 740-7995.

MCCTC accreditation

CANFIELD — Adult Education at the Mahoning County Career & Technical Center will host the AdvancEd North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement (NCA/CASI) reaccreditation visit March 8, 9 and 10.

Juvenile diversion

NEW MIDDLETOWN — The Springfield Township Police Department’s Juvenile Diversion Program will present “Wanna Chat? Who’s Talking to Your Child Online?” from 7 to 8 p.m. March 18 at Springfield Intermediate School Auditorium, 11333 Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road (state Route 170).

Guest Speaker will be Kathleen Nichols, Youth and Juvenile Programs director of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

The program is intended for parents and will discuss Internet safety and children. Some of the topics may not be suitable for young children. The public is invited.

Black-nurses scholarships

Youngstown-Warren Ohio Black Nurses Association has scholarship assistance available for those who are in an accredited nursing program. The deadline to apply is March 31.
