NEW CASTLE, Pa. — A hearing will be at 9:30 a.m. March 12 in Judge Dominick Motto’s courtroom in Lawrence County Common Pleas Court on a motion to move the homicide case of 12-year-old Jordan Brown to juvenile court. Brown is charged with two counts of homicide in the February 2009 shooting death of Kenzie Houk, 26, and her unborn child at the Brown home in New Galilee. Brown was 11 at the time and, under Pennsylvania law, has been charged as an adult. An initial hearing Jan. 29 was recessed to allow the prosecution to seek a psychological evaluation of Brown.

Pa. police seek teen

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police are looking for a 19-year-old man, convicted of assault, who failed to report to the Department of Public Welfare Youth Development Center after attending classes at a Lawrence County college. State police say Kyle Sean Stanley Mathis, of Philadelphia, was permitted to attend classes at Butler County Community College in Union Township, Lawrence County, in an unsupervised capacity. Mathis was supposed to be picked up about 11:45 a.m. Saturday by youth development center staff at the school but failed to show up at a designated location. Mathis is possibly still in the New Castle area, state police said.

Jennings public meeting

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — Jennings Environmental Education Center, 2951 Prospect Road, is inviting anyone interested in discussing the accomplishments and expectations for the park to an informational meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 24. The public can offer input about park operations and services. Center staff and representatives of various friends organizations, including the Moraine, McConnell’s Mill, Jennings Commission and the Jennings Water Quality Improvement Coalition, will be available to discuss park programs, publications, resource-management projects and volunteer opportunities. Light refreshments will be served.

Awesome-town meeting

AUSTINTOWN — A planning meeting for the Awesome-town Fall Festival is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in Stacey Pavilion at Austintown Town-ship Park, 6000 Kirk Road. The festival is scheduled for Oct. 9-10 at the park. Everyone is invited to join in to help make the community a better place.
