Buffalo snaps KSU’s eight-game win streak

AMHERST, N.Y. — John Boyer scored 18 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out six assists as Buffalo snapped Kent State’s eight-game winning streak with a 70-55 win on Saturday.

Calvin Betts finished with 15 points and eight rebounds and Rodney Pierce had 14 points and eight boards for the Bulls (14-9, 7-5 Mid-American Conference).

Betts had 13 points in the first half, shooting 5-for-6 from the floor and made three 3-pointers before halftime. He led Buffalo’s early 14-3 run, helping the Bulls claim a 33-19 lead at halftime.

The Bulls, who have won three straight, shot 46.9 percent for the game and converted on 23 of 49 shots from the field. They also shot 6-for-18 from beyond the 3-point arc and 18-for-20 from the foul line.

Chris Singletary led Kent State (18-8, 9-3) with 18 points and eight rebounds.

Ball State 71, Northern Illinois 66

DEKALB, Ill. — Ball State hit 8 of 9 free throws in the final two minutes to beat Northern Illinois 71-66 and take over first place in the MAC’s West Division.

The Cardinals (13-11, 7-5) moved a half-game ahead of Central Michigan, which hosts Toledo today. Ball State and Central Michigan meet Wednesday in Muncie, Ind.

Ball State overcame a 30-point, 10-rebound performance by Xavier Silas, who was the only Northern Illinois player in double figures. The Huskies (8-16, 4-8) have lost eight straight games in conference play.

Randy Davis had 20 points, Jarrod Jones 16 and Pierre Sneed 11 for Ball State.
