Peterson Park, home to the American Freedom Fighters monument, was crowded with locals in honor of Gen. Thaddeus Kosciuszko. A wreath was laid at the monument in honor of Kosciuszko’s birthday Feb. 4.
The ceremony included a brief history of Kosciuszko, a book presentation for the library and a Polish flag waving. Kosciuszko fought in the Revolutionary War and served in Gen. Washington’s army.
Special guests included Mayor Tim Sicafuse and representatives from the offices of Congressman Tim Ryan and Sen. George Voinovich.
The wreath laying ceremony was concluded by the release of red and white balloons.
The annual event was sponsored by Polish Youngstown.
