Canfield’s Trebilcock brothers swim well at sectional meet in Akron

Vindicator staff report

AKRON — Canfield senior Garrett Trebilcock won the 200-yard individual medley, placed second in the 100 freestyle and helped the Cardinals win two relays at Friday’s Division I sectional swim meet at the University of Akron.

Trebilcock, who won a Div. II state title in the 200 IM last winter, finished more than five seconds ahead of the second-place challenger in that event on Friday.

He and his younger brother, junior Gavin Trebilcock, finished 2-3 in the 100 free. The brothers were also members of the winning 200 free relay (which won by three seconds) and 400 free relay (which won by seven seconds). Steve Dalvin and Ryan O’Malley were also on those relays.

Gavin Trebilcock was second in the 50 free, while O’Malley (third) and Dalvin (fifth) also placed in the top five.

The top two individuals and teams in each event automatically qualify for next weekend’s district meet. Other competitors will qualify for at-large bids based on statewide times.

Boardman freshman Ryan Bailey placed second in the 100 butterfly and fourth in the 100 breast and was a member of two fourth-place relays: the 200 medley and the 400 free. Junior Mike Henson was third in the 100 back and was part of the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay.

Warren Harding senior Quinn Hernon placed second in the 200 free.
