Artistic event scheduled at McDonough Museum

Special to The Vindicator AND ALL THAT JAZZ: Second Avenue Project, comprising the eight musicians above, will provide classic selections of rhythm and blues, swing, jazz and top 40 tunes for dancing during the “Mad About the Arts” event Friday at the McDonough Museum of Art. In addition to music, the popular cultural event will feature fine wines and food, and a display of selected artworks in various media by the studio art faculty from the department of art at Youngstown State University.

YOUNGSTOWN — The 14th annual “Mad About the Arts,” one of the area’s leading cultural events, will be an evening of fine wine, food, art and music on Friday at McDonough Museum of Art, 525 Wick Ave.

Festivities will begin with a Friends of the Arts preview reception at 6:30 p.m. Hors d’oeuvres from several area restaurants, premier wines and appetizers will be served and jazz will be played by the Second Avenue Jazz quartet. The cost for the reception is $75.

Admission to the evening’s main event from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. will be $40. Second Avenue Project, comprising eight musicians, will provide classic selections of rhythm and blues, swing, jazz and top 40 tunes for dancing.

On display throughout the galleries will be the Biennial Faculty Exhibition of selected works in various media by the studio art faculty from the department of art at Youngstown State University.

“Mad About the Arts” is a benefit for the McDonough Museum of Art, a center for contemporary ideas, art, education and community, and SMARTS (Students Motivated by the Arts) a K-16 arts education partnership between the college of fine and performing arts at YSU, Beeghly College of Education, Youngstown City Schools and other vital arts organizations in the area.

Promotional assistance and support is being provided for the event by WKBN-27 and Fox Youngstown, City Printing, the Metro Monthly, Mix 98.9, WKBN-570, Edward’s Florist, WYSU-88.5 FM and Trinkle Signs.
