Schiavone named to YSU board

YOUNGSTOWN — Atty. Leonard D. Schiavone has been named to the Youngstown State University Board of Trustees.

The appointment was announced by Gov. Ted Strickland.

Schiavone is a partner and treasurer at Friedman and Rummell Co., LPA in Youngstown. His practice is concentrated in the areas of real estate, corporate and domestic- relations law.

He graduated from Purdue University in 1974 and received his law degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1977.

He is a member of the board of directors of Humility of Mary Health Partners in Youngstown and has been a member of the North Side Citizens Coalition for Community Development since 1985.

He received the 2003 Distinguished Service Award from the Mahoning County Bar Association.

“As a lifelong resident of Youngstown, Leonard has made notable contributions to the Mahoning Valley as a business and community leader,” Strickland said. “I am confident that he will work just as hard and exemplify the same dedication to Youngstown State in his new role on the board of trustees.”

The appointment returns the board to its full nine-member complement.

Schiavone will replace Atty. Elizabeth Bernard, who was appointed to a nine-year term in October but resigned shortly thereafter.
