Mayor expects operations offers to come soon


YOUNGSTOWN — Mayor Jay Williams said responses to a city request for proposals to take over operation of city summer recreation programs should be in hand within the next week or so.

Finding private entities, preferably nonprofit organizations, to run programs is one way the city is looking at trimming a 2010 budget deficit expected to be between $3 million and $3.5 million.

Getting out of the recreation programming business could save between $750,000 and $1 million a year, city officials say.
