Contracts awarded for sewer plant
The plant will be built along the north side of U.S. Route 224 in Edinburg.
HILLSVILLE, Pa. — Construction of a new sewer plant in Edinburg is tentatively set to begin in May after the awarding of contracts by Mahoning Township supervisors.
A.P. O’Horo Construction, Youngstown, was the successful bidder and had the lowest of four bids at $6,117,000.
Supervisor Vito Yeropoli noted that the firm agreed to do the job for its bid price, even though the bid had been submitted 18 months ago.
Inertech Electrical, Lowellville, was awarded the contract for electrical work for the sewer plant. It was the lowest of five bids at $1,683,300.
The sewer plant will be on the north side of U.S. Route 224 just west of the blue bridge.
Bids also were opened for construction of sewer lines and pump stations for the Edinburg sewer-line extension.
Greg DelPrincipe of RAR Construction, New Castle, which is reviewing the bids, said there were seven bids for construction of sewer lines, seven for general contracting of the project and five for electrical work for the pump stations.
He said apparent low bidders and their bids are: Shivers Construction, Erie, sewer-line contractor, $7,281,313; G.B. Sand, New Castle, general pump-station contractor, $845,408; and Inertech Electrical, electrical work on the pump station, $236,600.
The project is being funded with a $10 million state loan and $6 million in state grants.
Also at their meeting Tuesday, supervisors agreed to hire an outside auditor to audit the Mahoning Township Volunteer Fire Department.
Yeropoli said that supervisors are considering a request by Fire Chief Poncho Exposito for the township to provide more financial help to the department.
Yeropoli said the township is obligated to pay only insurance for the department, but it also makes payments on a firetruck.
He said supervisors agreed they want an audit to determine everything is in order before providing more money to the department.
