Cleveland State wins sixth straight

CLEVELAND — Norris Cole scored 22 points to lead Cleveland State to an 80-71 win over Valparaiso on Thursday.

Trevon Harmon added 17 points and Jeremy Montgomery had 15 for the Vikings (13-12, 9-4 Horizon League), who won their sixth game in a row. The win avenged a 78-71 loss to Valparaiso on Jan. 16.

The Vikings are 6-1 against Valparaiso since the Crusaders joined the Horizon League three seasons ago. Leading 34-30 at halftime, the Vikings broke open the game with a 12-2 run to start the second half.

Ursuline High graduate D’Aundray Brown capped the run on a layup with 14:44 remaining to give the Vikings a 46-32 lead. Cleveland State built its largest lead at 57-39 on a basket by Cole with 9 minutes remaining.

The Crusaders (13-14, 8-7), who had won seven of their previous nine games, were led by Brandon McPherson with 17 points. Brandon Wood added 14 points and Michael Rogers had 12.

Wisconsin-Green Bay 64, Detroit 62

DETROIT — Rahmon Fletcher scored 16 points, including the go-ahead layup with about two minutes left, to lift Wiscosin-Green Bay.

Fletcher made it 61-60 with the fastbreak layup after teammate Seth Evans stole the ball from Detroit’s Woody Payne with 2:11 to go.

The Phoenix (16-10, 8-6 Horizon) then strengthened their lead with a free throw by Evans and two by Randy Berry to make it 64-60.

Green Bay 61, Wisconsin-Milwaukee 54

GREEN BAY, Wis. — Green Bay avenged a 20-point loss to Wisconsin-Milwaukee earlier this season.

The Phoenix (16-9, 8-5 Horizon) shot only 35 percent from the field, but hit on 15 of 21 free-throw attempts compared to 4-of-8 free-throw shooting for Wisconsin-Milwaukee (13-11, 5-7).
